EGSL Umpire Program

Becoming an umpire with Escondido Girls Softball League (EGSL) is a great way to stay involved in the game, support our players, and give back to the softball community. EGSL umpires play a vital role in creating a positive, fair, and fun environment for our athletes while developing valuable skills such as leadership, confidence, and decision-making.

Umpiring is open to ages 12+, offers paid opportunities, flexible scheduling, and on-field training and support. Whether you’re a former player, a parent, or simply love the game, becoming an EGSL umpire is a rewarding way to stay connected, earn extra income, and help shape the experience for young athletes.

Youth/Junior Umpires

The EGSL Umpire Program accepts youth ages 12 and up. All interested youth must register for and attend the required umpire trainings. All youth umpires will need to be registered with USA Softball.

Adult Umpires

The EGSL Umpire Program accepts adult umpires ages 18+ that register and attend the required umpire trainings. All adult umpires will need to be registered with USA Softball which includes a background check and SafeSport certification.

Umpire Training

Each umpire is required to complete a minimum number of hours of training prior to officiating their first game. Follow-up is done throughout the season to reinforce proper techniques, answer questions, and evaluate performance. Training for umpires begins in January and includes both classroom and field work. Any coach interested in learning more about the role and training of the umpires and/or the rules of our league are invited to attend the umpire training.
